El equipo boricua cargó con el título tras una reñida final del evento celebrado en Rowayton, Connecticut.
El pasado fin de semana, Francisco y Faith se coronaron nuevamente como los campeones de Norteamérica en la embarcación Hobie 16. Esta es la 4ta ocasión que Francisco logra el título y la 2da vez con Faith (ganaron también la edición 2022 en Michigan City, Indiana).

Los medallistas de oro de los Juegos Centroamericanos de San Salvador 2022, los veleristas Francisco 'Faccio' Figueroa y Faith Payne, se coronaron el domingo como los monarcas del Campeoanto Norteamericano de Hobie 16 2024 celebrado en el Roton Point Sailing Association, en Rowayton, Connecticut.
Fue duro cierre de evento en donde el campeonato concluyó con un dramático empate entre los boricuas y el equipo de Ben y Casey Brown de Estados Unidos.
Los puntajes idénticos obligó al al comité de carrera a aplicar la regla de desempate, donde se redujo la cantidad de cuartos lugares, permitiendo que Figueroa y Faith se alzaran con la corona del evento al tener dos cuartos puestos en comparación a un cuarto lugar de los Browns dentro de todas las jornadas.
"La competencia fue feroz durante todo el evento y después de 11 carreras, la batalla por el título del campeonato terminó en un empate dramático", expresó Figueroa.
El tercer lugar fue para los estadounidenses Mark Modderman y José Justiniano.

The Hobie 16 North American Championship was held at Roton Point Sailing Association in Rowayton, CT. Sailing on Long Island sound, a tidal estuary just north of New York City, 50 teams from the North American region are competing in this week-long event.
A persistent high pressure over the New England states, while delivering very pleasant temperatures, kept the winds on the lighter side for much of the week. An active sea state and full moon tides added to the challenge. Most races were completed in moderate winds of 8 - 14 knots with significant current. Early in the week the strong ebb tide was pushing boats over the line but later in the week the flood showed up with the opposite effect. Crossing the start line and getting around the weather mark was a challenge.
Competition was fierce throughout the event, and after 11 races, the battle for the championship title ended in a dramatic tie. Both leading teams finished with identical scores, forcing the race committee to apply the tie-breaker rule. The tie-break came down to the number of fourth-place finishes. Francisco Figueroa and Faith Payne (PUR) edged out Ben Brown and Casey Brown (USA) by having two fourth-place finishes compared to the Browns' one
As a result, Francisco Figueroa and Faith Payne (PUR) were crowned the 2024 Hobie 16 North American Champions.
